Free version of #MobileChat? I think I'll pass.

Almost a year ago when the App Store was just a babe I bought a little program called MobileChat. The promise was, it would keep you logged in to AIM (or another IM platform) whether or not you had the application open since there was no Push technology at the time. The app cost me a whopping $2.99. I wasn't happy about paying for an app (since the majority of the ones I got were free at that time), but I thought it would be worth it given their value proposition.

Well, here's the rub. MobileChat never worked as advertised. The guys who made it knew they had problems and tried desperately to get it fixed. I'm sure they made a nice bundle off people like me, and I'm sure their intentions were good, but at the end of the day, the app didn't work. Sure, they released a few free updates but none of them ever worked consistently for me. I considered asking for a refund at the time, but they were so insistent on their blog that a fix was coming that I decided to just wait this one out and give them a chance. They eventually just became a forgotten app on my iPhone since thee were plenty of other free IM clients out there.

Fast forward about a year later. MobileChat is now under new ownership:

And the original developers changed the name of their company from Twenty08 to Enormego:

With all the bad press they got over MobileChat, it's no surprise they decided to change the name and try to wipe their slate clean. In fact, MobileChat is nowhere to be found on Enormego.com.

It's unclear whether "new ownership" means Enormego or some other company named Mobile Apps, Inc. as specified on the MobileCh.at website. Regardless, I'm keeping my distance from anything from either of those companies. If Mobile Apps, Inc. is really a different company, why the heck would they take over an app that had such a bad rap? I sent an email to them requesting a refund. We'll see if that goes anywhere.

Not likely.

A few carbon fiber goodies for my M3

These past few months have gone by pretty fast (must be the crazy schedule we have at work lately) but the wait is still pretty unbearable. There's just a little over a month more to go, but thankfully I have in my possession a few cosmetic goodies to somewhat tie me over. These are all going to be pretty subtle mods, hardly noticeable to most, but all that matters is, I'll appreciate the nuances. Still planning on a few more small things between now and when I leave for Germany, but I can see this all beginning to come together.

In this pic:

  • 1x1 Black Carbon Fiber Front Kidneys (purchased from JL Motoring)
  • Full Carbon Fiber BMW Roundels for Hood, Trunk and Steering Wheel (purchased from Euro Body Kits)
  • Monochrome M3 Emblem (purchased from EAS)

To come:

  • Smoked Front Bumper Reflectors
  • Monochrome Side Gill M3 Emblems (not sure if I'm getting Matte Black or Carbon Fiber covers yet)

Considering over time:

  • Carbon Fiber Front Lip
  • Carbon Fiber Rear Diffuser
  • Carbon Fiber Side Mirror Covers
  • Some Exhaust upgrade...not sure which one yet.
  • Short Shifter
  • And of course, when I wear through my first set of tires, something to replace the ugly OEM wheels. I've never liked them.

My guess is, it will be late September / early October before I'll be able to put any of the stuff I've already got on since it's going to take between 6-10 weeks to ship the car back from Germany, but at least this is pacifying some of my obsession for now.

Bad iPhone pics here, but these are a bunch of trains created by several members of our Apparel Design Team as part of an inspiration project while they were working on a season line. Apparently, there are a lot more than what went up on the wall.

I'm going to need to bring my 5D Mark II tomorrow to take better pics.

Love my job.

*EDIT*
Better pics taken with my 5D Mark II have been uploaded to Flickr.

My latest Vinyl: 12" Blue Fooly Cooly Canti

Wasn't planning on buying anything today but since we were in Chinatown for Dimsum today for Father's Day, and this just happened to be on sale, I figured why not?

Shark Encounter, 3 Years Later...

Two photos from SeaWorld’s Shark Encounter exhibit taken 3 years apart. My, how the boy has grown!

Second shot is so much better thanks to the low-light performance of the Canon 5D Mark II. The original was taken with a Canon Digital Rebel XT. I used the same lens on both shots (Canon EF 17-40mm F/4 L USM).

1st Shot: 1600 ISO 1/60 Exposure
2nd Shot: 3200 ISO 1/8 Exposure

I found my iPhone! And I can do curly quotes!

Ok, I never really lost it. Was just trying out the new “Find My Phone” feature on iPhone 3.0 and MobileMe. This is awesome. Great job Apple!

And for the type geeks out there, did you notice the curly quotes in this post? Love that I can do that now from the iPhone.
