Hello World!

« Back to blog

I'm on a boat!

Well...sort of. My M3 is finally assigned to a shipping vessel now. Took 8 days after drop-off to get assigned, and by the looks of it, the departure date and destination date are reversed. Wishful thinking makes me want to believe the departure date is the only one that's wrong and that the car will actually be at Port Hueneme in 9 days, but I kinda doubt that. I sure hope the departure date is not actually in September.

Here was my experience with wait time of my M3 to come from Europe. It took about 7 weeks net, with no known hangup in customs. I dropped off my car in Paris on August 8th 2008. I think there was some added travel time resulting from dropping off further from Germany. My came to the East Coast and was then shipped to the Performance Center in SC. I had a scheduled pickup date, but then our little girl was born right at the same time. I had to wait an additional week, but it was not BMW's fault. Be patient and it may show up sooner.

I would be pretty happy with 7 weeks. From the looks of it though, assuming the destination date is a typo and should read Sept instead of Aug, it will be 8 weeks to port, and who knows how much longer from port and customs, to dealer, to me. That should still be within their specified 6-10 week estimate though. I just want it faster ;)

I tried to be patient. It really didn't work very well. :)
